Quick access menu in Windows 10 and Recent Places in Windows 8 are completely different and absolutely matching their names. Quick access menu in Windows 10 - is a combination of pinned items and frequent (not recent) places.

To pin Recent items (not places)  - type in the windows explorer:
%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent, click Enter.


List of recent items will appear, including recent places and files.


Click Pin to Quick access
